Buried Prey
By John Sandford

John Sandford’s 21st Prey novel charges out of the gate when Lucas Davenport identifies the remains of two little girls as the Jones sisters, abducted nearly twenty years ago, killer unknown. At least, that’s how Lucas saw it then, when he was a rookie. In a flash back to 1985, Davenport is in uniform and hot to make detective. He proves himself more than able when he tracks down a suspect in the girls’ abduction. The man, a vagrant, is shot dead before he can be questioned, and to Lucas’ chagrin the case is closed. As this book fast forwards, Lucas uses his considerable clout to reinvestigate. As he gets closer to the truth, tragedy strikes someone close, and anger could cloud his judgment just where he needs it most.
